Kentucky VINE is a free information and notification service. Official material says participating county jail booking systems, prisons, mental-health facilities, and juvenile detention systems send information to it. This adult resource uses only the Mason jail and Kentucky DOC parts of that coverage. Juvenile information must not be exposed.

Bracken County has no operating adult jail. Adults connected to local cases are generally housed at Mason County Detention Center. That makes the Mason record the relevant local-jail record. A person serving a Kentucky sentence or supervised by Kentucky DOC may also have a state record. VINELink does not merge every agency document into one complete history.

Run a Bracken VINELink Search

Begin at VINELink, select Kentucky, and choose “Find an Offender.” Enter a partial name or an offender ID. Partial-name searching can help with spelling variations, but it also increases the need to compare identity fields. Prefer a jail, DOC, booking, or other official identifier over a name alone.

Read Bracken Custody Results Carefully

The dynamic interface did not yield a stable released-person example during research. No exact released-status wording, release-date field, or post-release retention period was verified. Do not assume every result uses the same label or remains available for a set time. Record what the live screen actually says and note when it was checked.

“Release” also needs a custodian. Mason may report that its custody ended because another agency accepted the person. That is a transfer, not freedom in the community. A DOC record may show a P&P location after institutional release, which indicates community supervision rather than final discharge. The Bracken court order may explain authority, while the jail’s written release or removal entry supplies the actual local time and receiving authority.

Register Bracken Release Alerts

Online registration begins from the correctly matched person record. Choose “Notify Me of Status Changes,” select phone and/or email, and complete the prompts. Kentucky sources support release, transfer, escape, and upcoming parole-hearing notifications. Available alert types can depend on the source record.

Phone registration is available at 1-800-511-1670. A phone registrant creates a four-digit PIN. Entering that PIN during an alert confirms receipt. If a call is not answered, VINE may leave a machine message and retry during a 24-hour period until the PIN is entered. Calls can arrive at any hour, and a switchboard cannot be registered.

Register Both Bracken Record Types

Kentucky specifically warns that one DOC offender can have both a local-jail VINE record and a DOC VINE record. This matters in Bracken County because the local adult custody route runs through Mason, while a later state sentence is maintained by Kentucky DOC. Following only the Mason record may miss the state side of that transition.

Search for both records when the known timeline includes a Mason booking and a Kentucky sentence. Register separately on each correct match. A local alert may report Mason’s release or transfer. The DOC alert may report a later prison or parole event. Together they can show a transition, but neither replaces the court order or signed custody record.

The dual-registration safeguard is especially useful when Mason’s release/removal entry identifies Kentucky DOC as the receiving authority. It is not a reason to register indiscriminately on similar names. Confirm identity first.

Confirm Bracken Release Notices

For a local Bracken case, call Mason County Detention Center at 606-564-3621 and request the release or removal entry. Kentucky jail rules require a record of the time, date, purpose, legal authority, and the person or authority receiving custody. That document distinguishes a community release from a transfer.

For a state sentence, search KOOL. Read Current Location, Supervision Status, and state-sentence date fields. A named P&P office generally supports release into community supervision. An institution or county-jail location supports continued custody. A proposed date or parole recommendation does not establish physical release.

For the legal reason behind a Mason change, request the signed Bracken court order or docket from the Circuit Court Clerk. A signed order and physical processing can occur at different times, so use the jail record for the actual end of Mason custody.

Bracken Registry Is Separate

The Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry is a narrow post-release source. It covers only people and offenses subject to Kentucky registration law. It may document that a registrant is living in the community and lets users follow certain changes, but it is not a general release list.

Absence from the registry proves neither that a person remains confined nor that no case exists. KSP also warns that it does not guarantee accuracy and prohibits harassment. Use the registry only for its stated public-information purpose, and use Mason, KOOL, VINE, or court records for the broader custody question.

VINELink Limits for Bracken Releases

VINE depends on participating source systems and dynamic vendor screens. A delayed or mistaken alert can occur, and Kentucky posted a dated notice about a vendor error affecting certain February 2026 alerts. That discrete event supports careful confirmation. It does not justify a broad claim that all VINE information is unreliable.

Preserve the alert time, record type, and identifier. Compare those details with the agency record. If Mason and DOC results seem to conflict, check their time stamps and scope. Mason may have ended custody before DOC began it. Both entries can be correct.

If a record cannot be matched confidently, report the release as unconfirmed. Similar names are not enough. A precise identifier and confirmation from the responsible office are safer than choosing the most convenient result.

Maintain Bracken VINE Registrations

Save the record identifier used for registration, keep the phone PIN available to the intended recipient, and update contact details when they change. If an expected alert never arrives, do not infer that custody stayed the same. Search again and contact the custodian. Notifications depend on the correct source record and a working delivery route.

When someone moves from Mason to Kentucky DOC, write the sequence instead of forcing both systems into one status. Mason can correctly report release from its custody while DOC correctly reports admission to state custody. VINE notices may arrive at different times. The Mason removal entry identifies the receiving authority, while KOOL identifies the later state placement.

For community release, a Bracken court order may establish authority and Mason records the processing time. For parole, KOOL and P&P show supervision after prison. For final discharge, obtain the formal order or certificate. VINE remains the alert layer across those records.

Registration by phone is personal to the number and PIN. A switchboard cannot receive the service, and a machine message does not confirm that the intended person heard it. Register more than one direct route where appropriate and follow the official prompts for each matched record.
